However, because these people were only images to him, and he has never experienced real people, save for the crazies in his jerzzy, he does not know anything beyond the images. Kosinski’s short novella is a one-gimmick book: Kosinski subtracts the explanatory substance and shows us how we are content with the empty shell of evocative metaphor.
